mathisfun.com is a free website that helps high school and younger students with math skills. As the name suggests the site attempts to provide an enjoyable and educational math experience. The site provides simple explanations for mathematical concepts coupled with examples and practice problems. A few of the most popular topics on the webpage are algebra, geometry, and data (mean, median, mode). However, through my person use and benefit, I have found the puzzles and quizzes section to be the funnest and most educationally beneficial. This source is designed for people who want to improve math skills in a fun way, a desire to learn, basic math skills, and average reading level are advised. This section of the page allows for educational and interactive math games are various skill levels. In my earlier days of math, I found this to be extremely helpful. I would recommend this site to anyone high school aged and below to improve there math skills.
Khan Academy
khanacademy.org is an educational website I have used to not only enhance my mathematical comprehension, but for many other subjects too. The site was created in 2006 by Salman Khan. The website features tutorial videos on an extremely wide array of subjects, packaged with practice problems after each video, to ensure the material was retained. Salman himself lectures in all the videos, which show step by step drawings and sketches of the problem on an electronic blackboard. Best of all, this amazing resource is free of charge and accessible online and on the app in over 20 languages. Students need a desire to learn due to the time commitment needed to watch the videos, advanced reading and comprehension levels, and basic computer skills to navigate through the website. I still find this website extremely helpful, and this is why I would highly recommend this resource to anyone high school aged and above, as the speed of teaching and concepts taught are not for beginners.
Fun Brain
funbrain.com is a math website, that puts a fun and engaging spin on learning math. This is achieved by using games to learn math concepts. There recent trends in math improvement skills, at a pre university level, seems to be through fun games. All of these games utilize basic math skills such as addition and subtraction to complete tasks like flying a plane. Students are able to choose what concepts they want to learn and then can decide on which game to play based off of that concept. Needed skills are desire to learn, basic reading and computer skills. I would recommend this website for children aged 3-8 due to the beginner level of math taught and the children engaging themes present. This is because the design is fun, but colorful and cartoon like, which would be a turnoff to older kids. I assume this resource will be used by young children, so having an adult present to work through the problems and the computer navigation would be highly beneficial. Overall, this site provides an interactive experience for students so it would also be helpful to students who have a hard time learning the traditional way.
Math Training For Kids
This is a game app that is sold on the app store for $0.99. This application helps improve addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division skills through the process of leveled gaming. The user will start at the lowest level and as his or her math skills improve he or she will progress through and up to the highest level, which is level 3. This app offers an extremely convenient platform for younger kids to improve there math skills during there free time. The required skills for this app is very basic math concepts, a small desire to learn math basics, and extremely basic application skills on an iPad or similar device. The selling point is for parents to let there kids play this game instead of non-educational games. I would recommend this application for children aged 4-12, as the games are extremely fun, colorful and educational for little children, but would definitely appear childish to a teenager.
